Happiness, Life

Healed or Hidden

Are You Truly Healed, or Just Untriggered?

It’s a question that occasionally wanders into the quiet corridors of my thoughts: “Am I truly healed, or are my wounds just comfortably dormant?” Healing is a personal journey, often pursued in solitude and reflection. During these solitary times, we might reach a comforting plateau, a space where it feels like all is mended, all fragments pieced back together.

But is this always true healing, or is it simply the calm of not being provoked?

See, while solitude can provide the balm for our wounds, it’s in the throes of relationships that our scars, both old and new, truly come to light. Relationships, with all their complexities and unpredictabilities, often play the unexpected role of a mirror, reflecting back to us the parts of our psyche we might’ve assumed were healed.

Those hidden, shadowy corners of our mind, which in isolation seem benign, suddenly spring to life, revealing raw, tender spots.

These connections with others can bring to the surface our deepest insecurities, and if we’re not careful, this can jeopardize the very foundation of the relationship itself. It’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing the other as the instigator, the one who should “fix” or “soothe” the wounds. In these vulnerable moments, we might find ourselves attributing every action, or inaction, of our partner or friend to these freshly triggered feelings.

Yet, this is the crucial juncture where true introspection is paramount. It’s essential to ask ourselves: “Is this pain genuinely stemming from the present, or is it a ghost from the past making its presence felt?”

It’s not about placing blame, but about recognizing that sometimes, our reactions are echoes of unresolved pain.

The beauty of relationships lies in their transformative power. While they can reveal our hidden wounds, they also offer the opportunity for genuine healing. But this requires acknowledgment, openness, and the willingness to confront those tucked-away traumas.

It’s about understanding that while others can support our healing journey, the onus of true healing lies with us.

So the next time you find yourself feeling whole and healed in solitude, cherish that peace. But also be open to the lessons relationships bring, for they are the true litmus test of our inner healing.

Always,
Your Trusted Friend ❤︎
