12 Days of Dreaming

Day 4/12

Today marks the fourth day of the 12 Days of Dreaming, celebrated differently across cultures but always with a sense of reverence and reflection. In Norse and Heathen traditions, this day honors the Deer Mother, a powerful symbol of guidance and sustenance through winter’s darkest nights. It’s also a time for the Wild Hunt, when spirits of ancestors roam under Odin’s leadership, reminding us of the cycles of life and the wisdom we inherit from those who came before.

In Icelandic traditions, this day is a celebration of feasting and toasting, where communities gather to honor peace, prosperity, and the gods. Odin is often at the heart of these toasts, a figure of wisdom and generosity who symbolizes the importance of connection and gratitude. These traditions strengthen bonds and remind us to toast not just to the season but to the shared journey we’re all on.

For modern Pagans, this day reflects on gratitude and the virtue of love—love that transcends the romantic and instead speaks of compassion, forgiveness, and understanding. It’s a call to open our hearts to ourselves and to others: to forgive our mistakes, offer empathy to those in pain, and celebrate the beauty of connection in all its forms.

Looking ahead to April, a month of new beginnings, we are reminded of life’s sense of adventure. For Icelandic communities, April was a time when ships set sail, carrying hopes for trade, exploration, and sometimes plunder. It marked the end of winter’s grip and the start of bold journeys into the unknown. This spirit of courage invites us to consider our own new projects and life paths. It’s a reminder that life is an adventure to be embraced, no matter where it leads.

Thinking forward to April the tarot card drawn to represent this month is —The High Priestess.

April Tarot Card: The High Priestess

For April, I drew The High Priestess. This card encourages independence, self-trust, and self-resourcefulness. It embodies the balance of yin and yang, symbolizing the ability to hold both softness and strength.

The High Priestess is the Independent Self-Knower, guiding us on the inward journey to self-discovery and the cultivation of inner nourishment. This card represents the power of intuition at every level of consciousness—mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical.

Like the camel that endures long barren distances yet ultimately finds its inner oasis, The High Priestess reminds us of our ability to traverse challenging periods and emerge with a deeper connection to our inner garden of wisdom and strength.

This is a call to reflect on who you are and who you are not, to trust your intuition, and to find harmony through self-reliance and self-respect. By trusting in your innate wisdom and inner ‘lustre’ – the radiance and vitality that come from embracing your true self – you can transform the inner critic into a fair and compassionate witness.

Affirmation:
“I am perceptive and intuitive. I trust my intuition and the wisdom within me. I deeply honor the human being that I am. I trust myself.”

Always,
Your Trusted Friend ✨
