12 Days of Dreaming

July: The Queen’s Garden

June was emergence.

Quite literally for me, as I moved from teaching full-time into summer—a literal emergence from one season into another.

Though it didn’t unfold the way I imagined it would.

Every year, when school ends, I spend the first week of summer doing much the same thing: sleeping, resting, recuperating. Letting my nervous system slowly believe it is safe to exhale.

So while life burst above the surface, it did so after months of effort and exertion.

June was emergence.

I wrote. I worked. I closed one chapter and stepped into another.

And then…

I rested.

As I look toward July, I do so with optimism, though it is quieter and more measured than it was a month ago. I left May expecting movement. I felt a raw, fiery energy building beneath the surface and assumed June would bring some dramatic shift.

It didn’t.

Instead, I remain in that familiar liminal space—the place between what was and what will be. Again and again, I have been receiving the same message:

Stay.
Sit.
Rest.

It is not the time to ‘do’.

Which brings me to July’s card: the Queen of Disks.

When I wrote about her months ago, I noted that nearly every depiction shows her seated. Yet she never appears passive. She appears powerful. Grounded. Certain.

Many images portray her with her eyes closed, listening inward.

She is the archetype of earthy abundance. She knows who she is. She does not rush. She understands that growth follows its own timing.

Her stillness is not inactivity.
Her stillness is gestation.

Something is growing.

Though she appears motionless, everything is happening beneath the surface.

The Queen of Disks takes the long view. She works with time rather than against it. She receives the spark of possibility and nurtures it patiently until it becomes something tangible. She builds security, stability, and sustainability. She creates the conditions necessary for abundance to flourish.

And so, when I ask what July brings, the answer feels surprisingly practical.

An honest look at my resources.

A review of habits, routines, energy, and finances.

A month of tending.

A month of building structures sturdy enough to support what comes next.

The dream is still there. The vision remains alive.

But this is not yet the harvest.

I’ve been working with the metaphor of a seed.

Last month felt like the moment it finally broke through the soil and reached toward the light.

July is the watering. The tending. The strengthening of roots.

The careful nurturing of a young plant that has not yet reached maturity.

There is growth here, certainly.

But not yet fruit.

Not yet the harvest.

For now, the work is simply to care for what has begun.

Always,
