April: Navigate Change

April’s tarot card for what to focus on energetically is the Six of Swords.

I’ve summed this up into two words, navigate change.

This post has been coming for a while. I sat down at the end of March to set my intentions for April but felt overwhelmed.

I shoved my head in the sand, closed my eyes, and sang nana-nana-booboo to block out the idea of impending change.

The Six of Swords typically depicts a person or group in a small boat being ferried across water to calmer shores. It symbolizes a journey from difficulties or conflict toward a more peaceful and stable future.

It represents temporarily moving away from difficulty to gain a new perspective and distance to clear one’s head.

Why has this been overwhelming for me?

Because I didn’t want to think about the burdens, burnout, stagnation, being overwhelmed, and feeling trapped and ineffectual.

Because that’s how I’ve felt.

While the card shows a movement away from this, it also means it’s time to sit and process ‘the stuff’ to gain that new perspective.

It also implies leaving behind familiar situations or people. This transition evokes mixed emotions, including sadness, uncertainty, and the fear of the unknown, making it daunting.

There is comfort and security in where I am, even if parts of me hurt.

When I pause in the boat of the Six of Swords, I become acutely aware of the weight I carry—the burnout, stagnation, overwhelm—and I recognize the depth of my sense of being trapped and ineffectual.

However, this moment of reflection offers me the clarity to understand what I’m truly facing. It becomes a catalyst for taking the necessary next steps forward.

And it reminds me that calmer waters await if I can sit in the boat now.

Sitting with and processing the funk cleanses the perspective and promises peace and a lighter heart on the other side.

This card often also has an oarsman who steers and propels the boat. Just as the figure guides the boat, I am reminded of the guidance and support all around me. I am not alone.

This recognition encourages me to lean on those who offer assistance and to trust in the collective wisdom and strength available.

With their support, I can find the courage to navigate through turbulent waters toward a brighter, more peaceful future.

While I’ve avoided visiting these thoughts, I am also encouraged that this is a time of moving forward with hope and renewal.

Calm waters lie beyond the storm that brought me here; I can glimpse peace in my future.

But first, I must sit with it in the boat, get a new perspective, process the lessons, and – finally – let go of what I’ve held onto.

Always,
